New Delhi: The National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), under the Ministry of Ayush, signed two strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) today at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi. The first MoU was signed between NMPB and IshVed Bioplants Venture, a Pune-based organization specializing in plant biotechnology.
This partnership aims to conserve and maintain the germplasm of rare, endangered, and threatened (RET) medicinal plants through tissue culture-based methodologies.
The initiative is expected to ensure sustainable supply and strengthen the cultivation and propagation of RET species crucial to the Ayush sector.

The second MoU was a tripartite agreement among NMPB, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), and AIIMS New Delhi, focused on establishing a National Medicinal Plants Garden within the AIIMS premises. The garden will act as a hub for public education, therapeutic plant research, and awareness, benefiting patients, students, and visitors alike.
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of Ayush (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare.

IshVed Bioplants Venture: Specializing in Plant Biotechnology
Through the IshVed Bioplants Venture collaboration, NMPB aims to develop comprehensive tissue culture protocols, enabling large-scale cultivation and access to high-value RET medicinal species used extensively in the Ayush industry. The agreement will leverage both entities’ strengths to deliver impactful conservation and commercialization outcomes.
Meanwhile, the AIIMS medicinal plant garden initiative will serve as a live repository and public education platform. Developed by AIIA, the space will showcase the diversity, utility, and benefits of India’s native medicinal plants to hospital-goers, researchers, and the wider public.
